FAQ

What is overpainting?
Overpainting is when you paint over your sketch, instead of using lineart and coloring inside the lines! Here are some great tutorials on overpainting!

The tutorial is very informative, and easy to follow.

The actual artwork (I assume that's what you want the most critique on):

I really like the atmosphere of this work. The emotion that it inspires. It does look like her little mousy ear is what's causing the light behind her though... I'm not sure if you meant to do that, or if it was an accident. It doesn't take away from the artwork though, and I always notice things that other people don't. (maybe I'm crazy?)

The cat paw in the background, the motion in the picture... I can almost see the cat peeking it's giant head around the corner, focusing its huge, dialated, eyes on Maichan... And then Pedobear grabs her and runs away... (sorry, that image of pedobear in the tutorial won't leave my mind... <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a…" width="19" height="19" alt="^^;" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="417" title="Sweating a little..."/> )

Overall, great work, wonderful details, awesome tutorial! Super cute character too! Now that I think about it, I guess the light could be shining through her ear. I would have added a little more shadow in there for depth though. Still a great piece as-is.

I'm not really great at the layout compositions yet, I still need a class for that... And probably three more years of design classes before I can give a legitimate critique... Sorry if I sound like an amateur. It's just my opinion, you can ignore it if you think I'm wrong about any of it. I'm far from professional.

Overall:

Vision: Mouse running from cat is a classic, but you made it your own in this piece. You've also made me cheer for Maichan, as well as feel that "oh no!" feeling. (yeah, cuz I really feel feeling... I'm shutting up now)

Originality: I've never seen anything like it, or thought of anything like it, so to me this is a completely original idea.

Technique: Flawless, aside from me noticing that ear... That's the only reason that I didn't give you a full 5 star on technique. Otherwise... Well, you get the idea.

Impact: I started feeling anxious, excited, and worried for Maichan. I imagined what could happen next. I could practically see that cat rounding the corner in the next second. I'd say its one of the most impactful works I've seen since the contest that asked to see what was hiding under the bed, in the closet, or in the basement. It doesn't inspire total fear though, so I like it better. Mixed emotions are more impactful than solid single emotions.
